20-22 -- Workshops at Illinois Winter Weekend, Chillicothe, IL. To register, click here. Workshop description for beginners: I am excited to be part of the 2015 Winter Weekend and am looking forward to meeting new students
and introducing songs and techniques from the Sunny South. As we move from being brand new players and make our way toward being solidly intermediate students,
it is important that we develop a really good foundation in the techniques of strumming and fingering. We will begin
our workshops by focusing on learning how our instruments really work and becoming better strummers, including pick control.
As the weekend continues, we will explore alternative tunings for our instruments, so please bring a tuner and a capo.
In addition, we will look at how we can more comfortably finger our chords and develop techniques for better movement between
fret positions for smoother playing. Most
of our work will consist of learning information and techniques within the context of songs, so plan to learn some new songs
or to update songs you may already know. There will be opportunities for students to ask questions and to incorporate
their questions into the workshops for sharing with others. March 15 @ 10:50 a.m. -- John Albertson and I will present the service music
for St. John's Methodist Church, 1207 Peabody Avenue. July 23, 24, 25 -- Ozark Folk Center,
Mountain View, AR -- Three days of workshops. Visit www.OzarkFolkCenter.com to register.
