Breakin' Up Winter 2007

For many years (19, I think) the Nashville Old Time String Band Association has hosted Breakin' Up Winter at Cedars of Lebanon State Park.  This is a great time for old time music lovers to gather, share tunes, share food and fellowship, and learn more about old time music.

This year, one of the featured presenters was Clyde Davenport, a notable old-time fiddle player and builder, and one of my personal heroes.  It was truly a majical weekend for me to be able to spend time with Mr. Davenport.  All of his fiddles are hand carved and sanded -- no machinery involved.  They are beautiful and sound fabulous -- especially when played by Mr. Davenport himself.

NOTSBA volunteers really put in a lot of work to bring this weekend together each year.  They should be applauded for their efforts.

Check out the NOTSBA website for more activities that the group sponsors:

Many thanks to Jan Miletich for taking pictures for us at BUW!  And to Betty Westmoreland for all of her help and promotion and for bringing Jan with her.
